Sinn Féin launch #SUAS - Stand Up Against Sectarianism Campaign
Sinn Féin has launched a campaign aimed at raising awareness about, and mobilising popular opposition against sectarianism within society.
Speaking ahead of the campaign roll out Sinn Féin National Chairperson, Declan Kearney MLA, said:
"Sectarianism remains a poison in our society as evidenced by the recent intimidation of families in East Belfast which led to them having to leave their homes. However, that has not happened in isolation from violent sectarian attacks against Catholic families, and the proliferation of unionist paramilitary and other flags in mixed population areas.
"Despite the efforts of many civic society organisations sectarianism will not merely fade away. It must be challenged at all times regardless of the source. Sectarian extremists and bigots must be exposed and faced down.
"There is no acceptable level of sectarianism, just as there must be zero tolerance against racism, homophobia or any other form of hatred or intolerance.
"Sinn Féin is launching this initiative to highlight the ongoing need to tackle sectarianism, and to encourage a popular community based anti-sectarianism campaign.
"We are inviting all sectors of society to join us in Standing Up Against Sectarianism...#SUAS" ENDS/CRÍ
