‘SDLP obsessed with attacking Sinn Féin’ - Kearney

24 October, 2017 - by Declan Kearney

The SDLP seem more obsessed with attacking Sinn Féin than in defending rights and equality, Sinn Fein National chairperson Declan Kearney has said.

The South Antrim MLA was speaking after the latest SDLP statement criticising Sinn Féin for not agreeing to re-establish the Stormont institutions.

Declan Kearney commented:

“It is a shocking indictment of the SDLP that its spokespersons obsess with attacking Sinn Féin.

“Increasingly it appears the SDLP has abandoned the equality and rights agenda, and the need to stand up against those opposed to the Good Friday Agreement. The SDLP should state what rights they are prepared to abandon in order to get back into the Assembly.

“Sinn Féin will not give up on our responsibility to the electorate.

“The British government and political unionism are continuing to block fundamental rights in the north. The SDLP may well have thrown in the towel but Sinn Féin refuses to acquiesce in any attempt to dismantle the Good Friday and St Andrew’s agreements.”
