Ferris condemns imprisonment of 5 Corrib protestors
Sinn Féin Agriculture spokesperson Martin Ferris TD has condemned the decision to lock up the five men who have been attempting to halt the laying of a potentially dangerous gas line through their lands. The five men were sent to prison this afternoon after they refused to give assurances that they would not obstruct work on their lands.
Speaking today he said, "I condemn this decision in the strongest possible terms. These men have legitimate concerns regarding the threat to safety that this pipeline may pose.
"I am calling for the immediate release of these five men and a complete halt to all work at the site until an independent safety assessment has been carried out and published." ENDS
