Sinn Féin welcome partial reversal of community cut
Sinn Féin MLA Emma Rogan has welcomed confirmation that a decision to axe a vital community organisation grant has been partially reversed.
The South Down MLA was speaking after the Department of Communities confirmed that it would be allocating £200,000 to the volunteering small grants programme.
“The Volunteering Small Grant is a fund that community groups receive annually for expenses such as training and running costs and is a vital source of income for many organisations,” she commented.
“Therefore, it was a huge concern when the department revealed that it would not be allocated any funds this year. Sinn Féin has been intensively lobbying for this decision to be overturned and the Permanent Secretary of the department has now confirmed to me that £200,000 will be allocated this year.
“That is a welcome step but it does not restore the grant to its previous level and Sinn Féin will continue to press for the full restoration of the programme.”
