Munster welcomes sports grants allocations after two year wait
Sinn Féin TD for Louth and East Meath and spokesperson for Sport Imelda Munster has today congratulated sports clubs and groups who have been allocated grants under the Sports Capital Programme this morning.
Deputy Munster said:
“I am very pleased for all the successful clubs who were awarded funding this morning. Sports clubs make an invaluable contribution to communities across the state, and the government needs to support them in any way they can. Sport is important for the physical and mental health of young and old alike, and has a very important role in Irish life.
“I am pleased that additional funding was made available this year, and that the grant will be allocated annually going forward, which allows clubs to plan their future with some degree of certainty.
“It has been a long wait for clubs, with the announcement delayed on many occasions. Last year, the grant was not available, and this fact was not announced by the Department, leaving many sporting organisations unable to proceed with plans to upgrade, improve, and expand their facilities.
“I wish all successful applicants every success with their future plans, especially those in my constituency of Louth and East Meath.”
