Managers response to Clonburris SDZ 'deeply dissapointing' - Eoin Ó Broin TD
- Clonburris SDZ SF submission (24 KB)
Sinn Féin TD for Dublin Mid West Eoin Ó Broin has said that "radical changes must be made to the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone draft if it is to secure Sinn Féin's Support."
Ó Broin described the Managers Report on the 606 submissions as 'deeply disappointing'.
Deputy Ó Broin said:
"There was huge interest in the public consultation on the Draft Clonburris Strategic Development Zone plan.
"There were 606 submissions detailing 1,103 proposed changes. Sinn Féin also made a detailed submission.
"Unfortunately the Managers Report published this week is deeply disappointing. It has suggested only minimal changes to the draft plan and has ignored the vast majority of suggested changes.
"Thankfully the plan is now in the hands of County Councillors who will have the opportunity to table and vote on amendments in January.
"Radical changes must be made to the plan if it is to secure Sinn Féin's support. In our submission we outlined 7 key areas that required amendment.
"The SDZ must be designed to meet the housing need of existing and future communities. It must have a proper mix of social, affordable and market price housing.
"In our view there should be 25% social, 25% affordable and the remainder at market price. Given that 26% of the land is publicly owned these ratios are eminently achievable and should be developed in good quality mixed tenure estates.
"We are also concerned with the overall density and with the phasing of key public transport provision, community facilities and economic opportunities.
"To avoid the mistakes of the past a tighter phasing timetable must be in place too ensure that social, economic and transport infrastructure are developed in tandem with new housing.
"We are also concerned with the high level of permeability with existing estates. This is unwanted and unnecessary and should be removed.
"Our submission also highlighted the need for Social Clauses in all public developments within the SDZ to maximise the economic and employment opportunities for local people during and after the development.
"Sinn Féin will be meeting a range of residents groups in advance of the amendment deadline in January and submitting a broad range of proposed changes to ensure that this plan meets the needs of the existing and future communities in Dublin Mid West."
