‘School building delay isn’t credible’ - Mullan
It isn’t credible for the Department of Education to delay school building improvements until a new Minister is in place, Sinn Féin MLA Karen Mullan has said.
The party’s education spokesperson was speaking after the lead official in the department claimed decisions may not be made on the school enhancement programme until a new Executive is formed.
“That position is not credible,” she commented.
“Over 160 schools are waiting on improvement projects under this programme and there is no good reason why the department cannot make the decision.
“The department will have assessed each project and the decisions should be made based on the objective need of each individual school.
“And while we accept the departmental budget is under sever pressure due to Tory-DUP cuts, available resources can still be allocated on the basis of objective need.”
