Sinn Féin host mesh campaigners meeting
Sinn Féin is to facilitate a meeting between senior health officials and campaigners seeking a ban on controversial mesh implants, the party’s MLA Órlaithí Flynn has said.
Commenting ahead of the meeting at the Department of Health tomorrow (Thursday), the West Belfast MLA said: “It is vital that Health Department officials hear directly from the women impacted by mesh implants.
“Sinn Féin has had the privilege of working with a number of women injured by mesh and the physical and emotional pain they have had to endure is horrific.
“Tomorrow, the department’s Permanent Secretary Richard Pengelly and the Deputy Chief Medical Officer Paddy Woods will have an opportunity to meet the women face to face and listen to their experience.
“We hope it inspires officials to undertake every effort to work to ensure all those injured by mesh have access to appropriate treatment and that suitable action is taken to protect people from future injury.”
