No affordable housing will be delivered in 2018 - Eoin Ó Broin TD
Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD has said that it is now "abundantly clear that no affordable housing will be delivered by Government in 2018”.
His comments come after raising the matter with Minster in the housing committee today.
Speaking today Deputy Ó Broin said:
“Today I raised the urgent need for affordable housing with Minister Murphy in the Housing Committee.
“It was very clear from his answers that no affordable housing is in the pipeline to be delivered this year.
“The Minister couldn’t confirm whether any affordable homes would be delivered in 2018.
“On the sites identified for affordable housing no building is yet taking place, some don’t even have planning permission. The full details of the affordable housing programmes have not yet been developed.
“It is doubtful if any of these developments will start this year. However she is now abundantly clear that no affordable housing will be delivered by Government in 2018.
“Rebuilding Ireland is now well into its second year and Fine Gael has been in government for seven years. The much promised affordable rental and purchase homes have yet to materialise.
“It is clear that people waiting for affordable homes will have a lot longer to wait. The Minister must outline a clear pathway and timeline as to how and when these homes will come on stream.”
