Molloy extends solidarity to Bahraini movement for democracy

8 February, 2018 - by Francie Molloy

Francie Molloy MP has said that Sinn Féin will continue to support the movement for democracy and human rights in Bahrain, following his participation in a panel discussion with the Bahraini opposition in London today.

Francie Molloy MP has said:

“I wish to extend our solidarity to the Bahraini movement for the rule of law, and the people’s right to self-rule in Bahrain.

“It is over six years since the Bahraini people launched a mass movement of resistance in order to achieve political change and end tribal hereditary rule in Bahrain.

“In doing so they have faced down an oppressive and sectarian regime determined to crush democracy and imprison human rights advocates.

“Seán Crowe TD, Sinn Féin Foreign Affairs Spokesperson in Dublin, has raised the extra-judicial executions of Bahraini prisoners inside the Irish Parliament and called on the Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs to raise the matter with his Bahraini counterparts.

“Sinn Féin will continue to do what we can to support those struggling for democracy and human rights in Bahrain.”
