Rights of women must not be undermined by Brexit - Anderson

15 February, 2018 - by Martina Anderson MEP

Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said the rights of women cannot be undermined as a result of the Tory Brexit agenda.

Speaking after hosting a workshop on the impact of Brexit on women in Belfast today, Martina Anderson said:

"There is no doubt that Breixt will impact every aspect of society but women will be one of hardest hit groups.

"Today I hosted a workshop in Belfast bringing together women from across the north representing a range of groups and organisations to discuss the impact of Brexit on women.

"It was a very positive event allowing women to raise their concerns about the impact of Brexit and discuss how we can ensure all of our rights are protected and respected.

"The discussions and the ideas that came from it will now inform my work work in Brussels and Strasbourg and I will ensure that their voice is heard where it matter.

"We cannot allow the rights of women and others in society to be undermined by the Tory Brexit agenda.

"There is clear demand from women for the north to secure special status within the EU in order to protect our rights and that I and others are working towards."
