McAleer seeks assurances on Strule campus
Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer is seeking assurances from the Department of Education that the Strule Education campus in Omagh will remain on course.
The West Tyrone MLA was speaking after the Department suspended the procurement process for the £140 million project, leading to concerns that it could be delayed.
“The Strule education campus is a ground-breaking project delivering state of the art education facilities for six schools and massive investment in the Omagh area,” he said.
“Work has been ongoing for a number of years now and myself and party colleagues have been engaging closely with the Department throughout that process.
“We will continue to do so and I will be seeking assurances that the project remains on course.
“My understanding at this stage is that this difficulty relates to a hitch in the procurement process rather than an availability of resources, because this project is eligible to be funded from the £0.5 billion for shared and integrated education that Sinn Féin secured as part of the Fresh Start Agreement.
“I am seeking an urgent meeting with the Department and will be pressing for this to be resolved so that any unnecessary delays are prevented.”
