Jonathan O'Brien TD to replace Mary Lou McDonald on Public Accounts Committee
Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald TD has this afternoon appointed Cork North Central TD Jonathan O'Brien TD as her replacement on the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Mr O'Brien's appointment coincided with the announcement of Pearse Doherty as Sinn Féin Deputy's Leader in Dáil.
Speaking following the appointment, Deputy O'Brien said;
" I am very much looking forward to challenge.
"The PAC performs a very important function in examining how public money is spent.
"I will continue the work of Mary Lou McDonald, and join with my colleague David Cullinane, in pushing for transparency, accountability and proper oversight in this regard.
"I am delighted that Mary Lou has given me this significant responsibility as she advances the work of shaping her team."
Commenting on O'Brien's appointment, Ms McDonald, who will deliver a keynote address on Irish Unity tomorrow afternoon in Cork city hall, said:
"Jonathan has worked closely with Pearse Doherty in the finance portfolio on issues relating to insurance, public sector pay and reform . He will now sit on the Public Accounts Committee, in addition to his other responsibilities.
"I wish Jonathan the very best in his new role."
