Archibald welcomes commitment to further talks to resolve university pension dispute
Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has welcomed the commitment to further negotiation by both Universities UK and the Universities and Colleges Union (UCU) to resolve the pension dispute which has resulted in lecturers taking strike action.
The party’s Further and Higher Education said, “On Tuesday UCU and Universities UK took part in talks regarding the USS pension dispute.
“Both parties also committed to further talks and agreed to the involvement of ACAS who provide mediation services.
“This is a welcome development. It is important that staff have fair and consistent terms and conditions of employment, the changes being proposed by Universities UK would have a significant impact on the future pension of many academics.
“Meaningful negotiation is necessary to find a resolution to the dispute which is satisfactory to all involved."
