'Leave no one in the cold' - McDonald calls on Varadkar to explain post office closures and to ensure that no household is left without heating
Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald has called on Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to explain why post offices were forced to close and to ensure that no household is cut off during this status red weather event.
Teachta McDonald said;
“I am very concerned at reports that post offices ran out of money today and had to close leaving many people with no payment.
“This has caused distress for many people. The Taoiseach owes an explanation and an apology to these people.
“Many will now struggle to heat their homes, particularly families that use pre paid meters.
“I have called on energy providers to ensure that all their customers have heat supply; to extend credit and arrears for customers or to consider other options on how to keep their customers heat on during this severe weather.
“Nobody can be left in the cold. Nobody's heating should be cut off.
“The Taoiseach and government must act to ensure that no household is left without heating.”
