‘Waiting list report shows need for transformation’ – Sheehan

1 March, 2018 - by Pat Sheehan

Sinn Féin's Health Spokesperson Pat Sheehan has said the transformation set out in the Delivering Together plan is needed to ensure people aren't left for excessively long period's on waiting lists.

Speaking after today's publication of a report by the Patient Client Council (PCC), ‘Our Lived Experience of Waiting for Healthcare’ the West Belfast MLA commented:

"The waiting times many people are having to endure are simply not acceptable.

"This PCC report shows that many people having to wait excessively long periods for healthcare procedures are facing a deterioration in their health conditions.

"For those left waiting for long periods it can also have consequences for their mental health and wellbeing as well as having potential financial implications for those unable to work due to their condition.

"It is clear that properly funded transformation, designed and delivered in partnership with patients and those working in the HSC, is needed to tackle the root causes of long waiting lists in our health service."
