Louise O'Reilly TD commends dedication of healthcare workers
Sinn Féin health spokesperson Louise O'Reilly TD has today commended healthcare workers for the dedication shown during the adverse weather conditions.
Teachta O'Reilly said;
"Over the last few days we have seen health service workers staying overnight in our hospitals and working extra shifts to keep our hospitals and our emergency services running.
"The threat to remove pay for those workers was not helpful and we welcome the fact that the Minister confirmed that all workers rostered on who could not attend will be paid.
"However this threat should not have been issued in the first place and those workers who could not attend should not have had the added worry of a cut in their wages.
"I will be writing to the Minister for Health to ensure that he clarifies the position for once and for all going forward - there can be no confusion when it comes to issues of wages and this cannot be allowed to happen again.
"I have said this before and we saw this in action during the adverse weather conditions. Our healthcare workers are worthy of praise for doing their job day in day out in an over stretched and under resourced health service. However, when we have incidents like the recent adverse weather conditions we see these workers step up to the plate and go well beyond the call of duty."
