Post Offices need emergency funding – Adams

2 March, 2018 - by Gerry Adams TD

Sinn Féin Louth TD Gerry Adams has called on the government to ensure that “Post Offices in Louth and the North East are properly funded when they open again for business”.

Teachta Adams said:

“There have been some reports in recent days that a number of Post Offices in Louth and Dublin ran out of cash because social welfare recipients did what they were asked to do by government and arrived early to collect their payments.

“Every effort must be made to ensure that this situation is not repeated when Post Offices reopen. There are thousands of households across the state relying entirely on these payments to feed and heat their homes.

“The government needs to prioritise the opening of Post Offices, especially in those areas where it is known that some welfare recipients were left without money, and it must ensure that they have the necessary funds to cope with the demand.”
