Taoiseach and senior civil servants requested to appear before PAC to account for money spent on Strategic Communications Unit
Sinn Féin member of the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee David Cullinane TD has written to the Committee Chairperson Seán Fleming to request that An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar attends alongside Martin Fraser and John Concannon to account for the cost of the Government’s Strategic Communication Unit.
Speaking this evening Teachta Cullinane said;
“The government’s advertisement campaign for Project Ireland 2040 has lent weight to the view that this is a PR investment, paid for by the taxpayer, for the benefit of the government.
“The government has spent €5million on its own PR Unit. That is a third of the additional money spent on mental health in Budget 2018. This is simply unacceptable and we must get to the bottom of it.
“That is why I have requested that An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Senior Civil Servant Martin Fraser and head of the Strategic Communications Unit John Concannon be invited to appear before the Public Accounts Committee this week.”
