Funding to repair roads required – Kenny

5 March, 2018 - by Martin Kenny TD

Sinn Féin TD for Sligo, Leitrim, North Roscommon, and South Donegal Martin Kenny has called on the government to provide additional funding to local authorities for road maintenance in the aftermath of the recent severe weather conditions.

Speaking from his constituency office, Deputy Kenny said:

“The recent snow and freezing conditions has left a number of roads in a desperate state of disrepair with large potholes making driving conditions hazardous.  While I commend the council workers for their tireless work in keeping primary routes gritted and clear of snow and ice, every effort must now be made to ensure all roads damaged by snow and ice are repaired.

“The main issue for councils is funding to repair and maintain these roads and I am calling on the government to provide local authorities with the funding required to repair all roads that have been damaged as a result of the recent cold snap.  It is important that this funding would not be taken out of the Leader Programme as has happened in the past.”
