Lack of controls at Our Lady’s Hospice in Harold’s Cross 'alarming' - David Cullinane TD
Sinn Féin TD for Waterford and member of the Public Accounts Committee, David Cullinane TD, has said the contents of a Health Service Executive report criticizing financial controls in place at Our Lady’s Hospice at Harold’s Cross are "shocking" and "need to be throughly examined".
Deputy Cullinane said he will request that the HSE and the Hospice appear before the PAC.
Speaking this morning Deputy Cullinane said:
“Time and time again we have seen audits and reports sharply criticizing financial controls in place in organisations funded by the HSE.
"A HSE report into Our Lady’s Hospice raises questions about procurement, alleged conflicts of interest and the use of the organisations credit card on items such as wine, restaurants, pubs and theatre tickets.
“This Hospice receives tens of millions of Euro of taxpayers money. It is vital that every cent is spent appropriately and that the content of this HSE report is scrutinized in full.
"The lack of appropriate financial controls in place in organizations funded by the HSE is all to common and is a symptom of a more systemic problem.
"I will be requesting that the HSE Director General and representatives of the Hospice appear before the PAC at the earliest possible opportunity.”
