Delay in GLAS payments not acceptable - Martin Kenny TD
Reacting to the news that GLAS payments will be delayed until the end of May, Sinn Féin Agriculture spokesperson Martin Kenny TD has said that it was not acceptable to pay something expected in December, in mid-summer.
Deputy Kenny said:
“There is either a lack of empathy or complete apathy on the part of the Department of Agriculture regarding the reality of small farmers’ lives. Payments from GLAS, or any other scheme, are factored in to the family budget and such delays can cause serious cash flow problems.
“There are reports that TAMS payments are also delayed due to inspection issues. This is unsurprising as there is a crisis in slurry storage in parts of the country where the weather has been wet for months.
“The promised simplification of CAP needs to include systems which reduce bureaucracy and implement inspections in a way that takes account of the reality of farming.”
