Concern follows mother and baby homes resignation
Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon has expressed concern that delays could be caused by the resignation of the independent chairwoman of the departmental working group which is investigating clerical child abuse at mother and baby homes here.
The party’s Victims spokesperson said: “Norah Gibbons has stepped down due to health reasons and we of course wish her well in her recovery.
“I would also be concerned that this development may cause further delays in an already frustrating process.
“Every possible step must be taken to ensure that isn’t the case and that will require the working group operating in full consultation with victims and survivors.
“That is the only way to develop a process that is victim centred and meets their needs and concerns. I am disappointed that this has not been the case to date.
“I have also requested a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Health Department to discuss the concerns that the Mother and Baby Group have raised with me.”
