Kildare Bus Tender must protect Drivers and Communities – Cullinane
Sinn Féin spokesperson for Workers’ Rights David Cullinane TD said today that the rights of up to 70 bus drivers in on Kildare routes must be protected.
Deputy Cullinane said:
“It is worrying that Bus Éireann has lost the right to operate six of its own routes in Kildare.
“The company spent years investing in these routes to make them profitable, and at a stroke of a pen they are signed over to a private company.
“It is hard not to see this as a concerted campaign by the National Transport Authority to sell off Bus Éireann’s assets in order to make the company nonviable.
“The drivers on these routes must not be allowed to be sacrificed to the NTA’s privatisation by stealth agenda.
“On the day after the Taoiseach boasted of stroke politics for Donald Trump’s golf club, we have the NTA outsourcing public and profitable bus routes to a private operator.
“It is clear that this government does not have the long-term interests of this state at heart.
“Workers’ rights must be protected, communities must be serviced, and genuine public investment is needed to secure our future.
“Sinn Féin would deliver on all these in government.”
