‘Brexit impact stats must be released’ – Anderson
Departmental officials are attempting to hide the full extent of the disastrous impact that Brexit will have on the North of Ireland, Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said.
“Last month a leaked British Government report showed that the North of Ireland could face a 12 percent drop in economic growth as a direct consequence of Brexit.
“That would be catastrophic for our economy and communities but I have now become aware that the actual figure could be as high as 20 percent.
“The Civil Service here has done its own impact analysis of Brexit, which takes into account the particular circumstances in the North of Ireland and our unique vulnerabilities, given our reliance on All-Ireland co-operation and trade for example.
“The results of that analysis are so damning that the Civil Service has not put them into the public domain.
“However, the public have a right to know the full extent of the calamity that we are facing into. They have a right to know where the Tories and the DUP are determined to drag the people of the North against their wishes and against their best interests.
“I am seeking an urgent meeting with the acting head of the Civil Service David Sterling and I will be telling him, in the interests of transparency and openness, he needs to release this information immediately.”
