Government failing those who need home help in Waterford – Cullinane
Sinn Féin TD for Waterford David Cullinane has criticised the Government for cutting home help hours for the people of Waterford at a time when they’re needed more than ever.
Deputy Cullinane said:
“It is utterly unacceptable that at a time when home help is needed more than ever in Waterford that this Government saw fit to cut home help hours in our area by 50,000 in 2017.
“The demand for home hours amongst our elderly, and in particular those with disabilities, has gone up significantly over the past number of years.
“Every day, I have people in my constituency clinics or on the phone telling me the HSE will not give them home help support or will not give them additional hours help for their loved ones.
“They are calling out for help and all they are told is there is not enough hours for their loved ones.
“The situation is unfair and demoralising especially when we see areas in other parts of the state, such as in Dublin, have had their home help hours increased.
“The Government representatives in Waterford have to answer for this failure.
“Our older people and those with disabilities deserve to live with respect in their homes and home help hours play a massive part in that. We need to see home help hours increased in line with need in Waterford.”
