Online abuse unacceptable - Boyle
Commenting on a report from Amnesty International on on violence and abuse against women on Twitter Sinn Féin MLA Michaela Boyle said:
“Today Amnesty International has published its report on violence and abuse against women on Twitter.
“They found that women are being targeted and harassed and that their experiences of violence and abuse on Twitter is a reflection of these experiences offline.
“Social media has opened up opened up the huge opportunities and possibilities to millions of people but there are clear instances it has been abused.
“Online abuse should be reported to the PSNI and to internet providers and I would appeal to anyone who is suffering from online bullying to seek help.
“Twitter also has a responsibility to make their platform a safer and less toxic space for women.
"I would encourage everyone to support Amnesty’s social media campaign to highlight this issue.”
