Anderson renews call for release of Ahed Tamimi
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has renewed her call for the immediate release of Palestinian teenager Ahed Tamimi after she was sentenced to a further eight months in prison.
Martina Anderson said:
"Palestinian teenager Ahed Tamimi, who was recently forced to spend her 17th birthday in an Israeli prison, has now been sentenced to a further three months in prison, together with a huge fine and a further sentence of three years which has been suspended.
"The charges brought against Ahed Tamimi and her continued detention are unacceptable and it is clear the Israelis are attempting to make an example of her for her understandable act of defiance.
"There are currently 350 children held in Israeli prisons and that should simply not be tolerated and they, including Ahed Tamimi, should be released immediately.
"The international community has a duty to protect the rights and freedoms of children and must demand the immediate release of Ahed Tamimi and all Palestinian children that Israel has detained."
