Plight of tenants in Larkfield House raised with Minister for Housing – Ó Broin

27 March, 2018 - by Eoin Ó Broin TD

Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD has raised the plight of the tenants in Larkfield House in Clondalkin who are in a very difficult situation following the decision of a developer to build and tenant apartments without planning permission and building compliance certificates. Deputy Ó Broin raised the issue with the Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy this afternoon.

The TD for Dublin Mid-West said:

“Last week, An Bord Pleanála upheld the decision to refuse planning permission for these apartments.  While the planning enforcement issues need to be addressed my concern is for the 44 households who now find themselves facing eviction, through no fault of their own.

“This is a serious housing issue. I asked Minister Murphy today to ensure that his Department and the Dublin Region Homeless Executive will provide every support it can to these families. We cannot allow them to become homeless.

“Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) should be made available to everyone on temporary basis.

“If the planning and building control issues aren’t resolved, every assistance must be provided to help the households affected to find new accommodation.

“The Department of Housing, the Dublin Region Homeless Executive and the local authorities affected must work together to ensure that none of these families fall between the cracks and become homeless or in some cases re-enter homeless services.”
