Funding for vital drug Vimizin finally approved – Kenny
Sinn Féin TD for Sligo, Leitrim, North Roscommon and South Donegal Martin Kenny has welcomed the news this evening that funding for the drug Vimizin is to be provided by the HSE
Deputy Kenny said;
“I welcome this decision by the HSE to provide funding for the drug Vimizin through a managed access programme. I have been campaigning along with families and members of the MPS society for months to get funding for this vital drug approved.
“There are two young girls in this state who suffer from the rare disease Morquio Syndrome and this drug Vimizin is vital for their treatment.
“On two occasions, I organised for the two young girls Grace McIntyre from Leitrim and Cezy Fosca from Kilkenny along with their families and the MPS society came to the Dáil to lobby for this drug to be funded.
“This is wonderful news for the two girls and their families and a relief for them to know that they are getting access to this vital drug.
“This model of using a managed access programme to deal with drugs for rare conditions is the way forward and I hope that HSE will apply this model to all drugs for rare conditions.”
