Ní Chuilín slams Neighbourhood Renewal cuts
Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín has strongly criticised the DUP and Tories over plans to cut Neighbourhood Renewal funding by four percent.
The North Belfast MLA was speaking after receiving confirmation from the Department of Communities that the cut would be imposed as part of the Tory-DUP budget.
“Neighbourhood renewal provides vital funding for the regeneration of our most deprived communities,” she commented.
“This programme is already delivered on a shoe-string and no further cuts can be sustained.
“All parties including the DUP have expressed support for the Neighbourhood Renewal programme. Indeed, when cuts were first proposed, DUP MP Emma Little-Pengelly acknowledged that ‘further reductions cannot be sustained by any of our NR [Neighbourhood Renewal] groups’.
“Yet today I have received confirmation from the Department that under the DUP/Tory budget Neighbourhood Renewal will be cut by four percent.
“This will further hamper efforts to regenerate our most deprived areas.
“It is a sad reflection on the lack of priority given by the Tories and the DUP to those most in need.”
