Sinn Féin backing Gaza demo
Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan said today the party will be supporting a demonstration at Belfast’s City Hall tomorrow in support of the people of Gaza.
Pat Sheehan said:
“A rally is being organised by the Trades Unions’ Friends of Palestine group and other Palestinian support groups at 3pm tomorrow outside Belfast City Hall.
“I am calling on Sinn Féin activists and others to support this protest which comes after the Israeli army has killed more than 20 Palestinians over the course of the last week and injured more than 1,000 others.
"Statements from the Israeli military in the aftermath of these latest killings are reminiscent of those of the British army after Bloody Sunday.
"What happened in Gaza last week was nothing short of a massacre and the killings by the Israeli army continue.
“The international community has consistently failed to defend the rights of the Palestinian people who face flagrant human rights abuses on a daily basis, this needs to change. Israel must be held accountable for this atrocity.
“Sinn Féin is urging the Irish government to finally take a stand against Israeli aggression and violence. An Taoiseach should expel the Israeli Ambassador and officially recognise the state of Palestine as approved by the Dáil in 2014. There can be no further delay.”
