Maskey calls for Permanent Sec to meet all-party group on community cuts
Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has urged the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Communities to reconsider his decision not to meet with an all-party delegation to address cuts to Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships.
The West Belfast MLA said:
"In recent weeks I brought together all Assembly parties to request a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Communities to show opposition to planned cuts to Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships.
“Unfortunately, the Permanent Secretary has decided not to meet with this all-party delegation.
“I would remind the Permanent Secretary of his department’s responsibility as the lead in tackling poverty and deprivation.
"The Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships are essential frontline projects aimed at tackling poverty and deprivation, while prioritising regeneration of disadvantaged areas.
"In the context of almost a decade of constant Tory cuts to public services and community funding, these Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships are essential to community protection and development. They must be protected.
"I am urging the Permanent Secretary to reconsider his position, and agree to meet with this all-party delegation to address these planned cuts as soon as possible.”
