Fianna Fáil 'avoiding responsibility' on 8th Amendment campaign - Louise O'Reilly TD
Sinn Féin spokesperson for Health, Louise O'Reilly TD, has described today's announcement by Fianna Fáil that they will not be supporting either side of the 8th Amendment Referendum campaign, as "an avoidance of responsibility".
Teachta O'Reilly said:
“In January Micheál Martin made an announcement that he supported the repeal of the 8th Amendment.
"Now fast forward three months later and here he is sitting on the fence choosing to avoid any responsibility, by refusing to show support for the TogetherForYes campaign.
“This will be seen as such a negative development by repealers as it is incumbent on all party leaders to do as their job title suggests, and provide leadership on this issue of women’s health.
"Sinn Féin's campaign to repeal the 8th Amendment is well under way. All across the state Sinn Féin members and elected representatives are knocking on doors and campaigning hard for the removal of the Eighth Amendment.
"We will provide leadership on this important issue in our communities and nationally.
"The decision by Fianna Fáil to opt out of this campaign and their failure to provide leadership will not be forgotten by those who want to see the 8th amendment removed.”
