‘Brexit health implications must be published’ - Sheehan
The Department of Health must make its analysis on the implications of Brexit publicly available, Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has said.
The party’s Health spokesperson was commenting after a Sinn Féin delegation, also including MLA Colm Gildernew met with the Department of Health's EU exit group yesterday.
Pat Sheehan said: “Brexit will have significant social and economic consequences for people in the north of Ireland and indeed across the island as a whole.
“There are serious implications for cross-border health services, in terms of mobility of health and social care workers and recognition of qualifications.
“People in the north of Ireland need to be made aware of what Brexit might mean for health and patient safety and what preparations are being made by The department to mitigate them.”
Spokesperson for Carers Colm Gildernew added: “Department of Health scenario planning relating to the different sectors of Health and Social Care are welcome but they are needed as a matter of urgency.
“Time is of the essence and the public need to be aware of what is at stake.“British Government negotiators should be left in no doubt that divergence with the EU will seriously and detrimentally impact health and wellbeing in the north of Ireland.”ENDS/CRIOCH
