Minister Murphy snubs Housing Committee - Eoin Ó Broin TD
Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson, Eoin Ó Broin TD, has criticised Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy for snubbing the Housing committee by refusing to attend the scheduled meeting tomorrow to review the progress of Rebuilding Ireland.
Deputy Ó Broin said:
“The Quarterly Review of Rebuilding Ireland is the single most important opportunity deputies have to question the Minister and his officials on the progress of the commitments made in Rebuilding Ireland.
“It is one of the most significant meeting in the Housing Committee’s calendar and I am very disappointed that the Minister will not be attending tomorrow morning as was scheduled.
“The Committee doesn’t mind rescheduling meetings if the Minister genuinely has clashing commitments and we afforded him flexibility in the past.
“However the Minister should not be informing the chair of the committee of his unavailability at the last minute and should not seek to postpone his appearance for a month.
“This is a clear snub to the Committee and it indicates that the Minister is running scared and is afraid to face the questions of the members, especially in the light of the rise in homelessness last month.
“The Minister’s attitude to the committee is unacceptable. He should make himself available at the earliest opportunity to take questions from his Oireachtas colleagues on his department’s housing delivery. “
