St. Michael’s Estate regeneration must be state funded - Eoin Ó Broin TD
Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD has welcomed the launch of the Our Community: A Better Way Campaign for a publically funded housing development in St Michael’s Estate, Inchicore, Dublin.
Speaking after the launch Deputy Ó Broin said:
“The proposals launched by the St. Michael’s estate activists this morning is an important contribution to the redevelopment of the area.
“Sinn Féin has long argued for a mixed income public housing development on this land with social and affordable housing designed to meet local need.
“Today’s proposal called for a mixture of social and cost rental housing. Such a model is a key commitment in the government’s Rebuilding Ireland housing plan and Sinn Féin supports it.
“The state should be investing in public housing on the land it owns. Rolling out a cost rental housing alongside social housing on the St Michael’s estate would prove that this model works and it could be replicated on sites across the state.
“I have raised the matter directly with Minister of State with responsibility for regeneration Damien English in the Dáil today and asked him to push for the financing of this development to be included in the 2019 capital plan.
"There is a huge need for social and affordable housing alongside community facilities and economic opportunities in Inchicore.
"A publicly funded social and affordable housing development is the best way to achieve this.”
