'Public appointments process must be followed’ - Sheehan
Sinn Féin spokesperson for Health Pat Sheehan MLA has said public appointments must follow proper procedures in the absence of Ministerial approval.
The West Belfast MLA commented: “The issue of departmental public appointments is one Michelle O'Neill has raised directly with the interim head of the Civil Service, David Sterling.
"It is clear the Commissioner for Public Appointments has concerns with some public appointment processes being pursued by departments.
"In particular the commissioner raised concerns with final decisions to appoint to public boards by the Department of Health-in the absence of a Minister-where it failed to consult the Commissioners office.
"This is contrary to the code of practice.
"It is of outmost importance that all departments-including the Department for Health-adhere to and follow proper procedures in a transparent manner.
"This is essential to ensuring public confidence in appointments."
