O’Donnghaile asks Seanad to intervene over racist Taylor tweets

1 May, 2018 - by Niall Ó Donnghaile

Sinn Féin Senator Niall Ó Donnghaile is to call on the Seanad to register its opposition with the British House of Lords over the racist social media comments by John Taylor.

Commenting ahead of raising the issue on the floor of the Seanad today, Seanadóir Ó Donnghaile said: “I will be asking members to support a call that the British House of Lords acts regarding the consistent and abusive nature of the tweets directed by one of their members to An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.

“Recently, Seanad members have engaged positively with members of the House of Lords Brexit Committee who will no doubt be aghast at the nature and tone of the tweets last night.

“All avenues should now be explored regarding the abusive and racist content and the Seanad should make our view known to the British House of Lords and encourage them to act in the interest of good relations, positive cooperation and opposing such crass and ugly sentiment as expressed by John Taylor.”
