Major non-compliance by private foster services a cause for serious concern – Denise Mitchell TD
Sinn Féin Spokesperson for Children and Youth Affairs Denise Mitchell TD has expressed concern at the quality of private foster care services being provided to Tusla after two inspection reports released today showed high levels of non-compliance.
Speaking today, Deputy Mitchell said:
“Today’s inspection reports yet again highlight major non-compliance when it comes to foster care services. This is deeply worrying and yet again raises serious concerns about whether there Tusla has appropriate oversight in place when it comes to private foster care services.
"We see in both cases that the private foster care services were found to be majorly non-compliant when it comes to safeguarding and child protection.
“These foster care services are dealing with some of the most vulnerable children in the State. It is simply not good enough that we continue to see such major failings when it comes to HIQA standards. The fact that one of the services in these inspections was found to be non-compliant in all seven standards assessed should set off alarm bells.
“I understand the providers have submitted action plan responses to HIQA and these should be implemented without delay.”
