Sheep tagging could have been part of sheep welfare scheme – Kenny
Speaking in the Dáil today, Sinn Féin’s Agriculture spokesperson Martin Kenny TD addressed the Tánaiste on the issue of the new electronic sheep tags, announced by Agriculture Minister Michael Creed TD.
Deputy Kenny said:
“I believe that farmers were dismayed at new tags but I think that it will be a good thing for the industry in the long term. However, I would have expected that this would be a new measure as part of the sheep welfare scheme in the Budget in October with farmers receiving an additional €5 per ewe.”
