Maskey seeking urgent meetings on De La Salle College
Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey is seeking urgent discussions with the Department of Education, CCMS and the Board of Governors at De La Salle College following the resignation of three board members at the school.
The governors resigned after it was announced that the school principal is to resume her role, two years after a series of controversies she went on paid leave.
Alex Maskey commented:
“I am very concerned with recent developments in the school and the resignation of three members of the board of governors.
“It is the responsibility of the Board of Governors to promote good governance and to support pupils, staff and parents and the role of the school in the community.
“De La Salle College experienced serious difficulties two years ago and despite the best efforts of many of those involved, there are still clearly very serious concerns and the resignation of three governors is an indication of that.
“This has all the hallmarks of a deteriorating situation and that would be not in the best interests of the pupils.
“There may be a need for further interventions to assist the school and I have asked for an urgent meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Education Department, the CCMS and the Board of Governors on that basis.”
