HSE continues to refuse to take responsibility of Cervical Check Sandal - Mary Lou McDonald TD
Uachtarán Shinn Féin Mary Lou McDonald TD has called upon the HSE to take responsibility for the Cervical Check scandal.
Speaking today Deputy McDonald said;
“Despite the HSE and government claims of full disclosure with each day we are learning of more revelations on the cervical check scandal.
"It now acknowledged that some women were told that multiple smear tests were clear and that these results were wrong.
"In some instances, the women concerned have since died. This information was not put into the public by the Minister or the HSE but by the women and their families.
"The Minister and HSE are continuing to deny the scale of the problem and failing to respond adequately.
"Meanwhile women who have received negative results are worried and uncertain about the accuracy of the tests and women who have developed cancer fear that their cancers could have been detected and treated earlier.
"It is clear that the leadership of the HSE is unable to take responsibility for this scandal. The only way to begin to rebuild confidence in the screening programme, the HSE and department is for the Director General of the HSE to step aside or failing that for the minister to act.
"Sinn Féin will be pushing for a vote in the Dáil next week on this matter as we strive to rebuild confidence in the screening programme.”
