Sinn Féin to table motion of no confidence in Tony O’Brien – Mary Lou McDonald TD
Sinn Féin Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD has announced that her party will table a motion of no confidence in HSE Director General in the Dáil next week.
Following Leaders Questions this afternoon, Ms McDonald said;
“Today, I again urged the Taoiseach to remove Tony O'Brien from his post as Director General of the HSE due to the Cervical Cancer scandal and for the continued failure of the HSE to provide certainty and information to women.
"Again the Taoiseach refused to hold Mr O'Brien to account despite calls from affected families for Director General to go.
"It is clear that the Taoiseach and the government will not hold the Mr O'Brien to account. This is unacceptable.
"Sinn Féin will next week table a motion of no confidence in the Director General as Private Members Business.
"This is has been made possible with the assistance of the Social Democrats, who have agreed to swap their Private Members time with Sinn Féin.
“This issue is not going away. We owe it to women like Vicky Phelan to ensure that people in positions of responsibility are held to account for this scandal.
"Without accountability, we will continue to move from one scandal to the next while those in leadership continue on with business as usual.”
