Begley raises A5 directly with British Government
Both governments must convene the British Irish Intergovernmental Conference so that key infrastructure projects such as the A5 road can be taken forward, West Tyrone Sinn Féin MP Órfhlaith Begley has told the British Secretary of State.
Commenting after meeting with Karen Bradley in Westminster, Órfhlaith Begley said:
“The A5 is a key infrastructure commitment from the St. Andrews Agreement and is a vital project for connectivity and regeneration west of the Bann.
“And while we welcome recent assurances of financial backing from An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, the British Government also has a responsibility to ensure that previous agreements are fully implemented.
“I told Karen Bradley that the best thing she can do to progress the A5 and all the other issues on which we need to see movement is to immediately convene the British Irish Intergovernmental Conference in order to pave a way for a restoration of the power-sharing institutions.”
