Archibald welcomes clarification on repair of Glenrandal Bridge in Park

16 May, 2018 - by Caoimhe Archibald

Sinn Fein MLA Caoimhe Archibald has said clarification on the repair of Glenrandal Bridge in Park Co Derry is useful.

The East Derry MLA said:

"The Glenrandal Bridge was damaged in the floods last August when part of the bridge was swept away and as a result the Glenrandal Road has been closed since then.

"I recently contacted the department to ask for an update on the timescale for replacement of this bridge and received a response which outlined the replacement of Glenrandal Bridge presents a number of challenging constraints due to the fact it was a listed structure in an Area of Special Scientific Interest over a salmonoid river in an area susceptible to flooding.

"The Department of Infrastructure has been working with the Department for Communities Historic Environment and also the Department for Agriculture Environment and Rural Affairs to develop a design which satisfies the requirements of the various agencies involved.

"As a result it is not expected that work will commence on site to replace the bridge until much later this year.

“The clarification on this process is useful to inform local residents on the potential timescale for the bridge replacement and road reopening."
