Anderson welcomes proposal to continue EU Peace funding
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has welcomed an EU proposal for European Peace funding for the north to continue post-Brexit.
Martina Anderson said:
"The proposal from the EU to continue Peace funding for the north post-Brexit in order to support the Good Friday Agreement and the peace process is welcome.
"EU cohesion funding and Peace funding has made a huge impact on the north over the years and it is vital that it continues.
"The EU has committed to supporting and protecting the Good Friday Agreement in all its parts so this announcement from Commissioner Corina Cretu is a further indication of that support.
"The continuation of EU Peace funding to the north post Brexit is essential for targeting social deprivation and strengthening rural communities and I will continue to engage with the Commissioner and others in Europe to ensure it remains in place."
