Sinn Féin meet Department for the Economy to discuss the 14-19 Review
Sinn Féin MLAs Caoimhe Archibald and Karen Mullan met senior officials from the Department for the Economy to discuss the ongoing 14-19 review.
The Party's Further and Higher Education Spokesperson Caoimhe Archibald said: “Our Education spokesperson Karen Mullan and I met with officials to discuss progress on the 14-19 review.
"The review is cross-departmental between the Department for the Economy and the Department of Education, as our party's spokespersons Karen and myself have engaged with stakeholders across the sector and have listened to the views and issues around the provision of education at this level.
"We were pleased to hear that this review is progressing and taking a wide look at the needs of learners and at how to provide the best outcomes for learners.
"We were keen to emphasise the need for clearly identifiable pathways for all learners across both academic and professional and technical education, as well as the need for recognition of learning and transfer of credit.
Karen Mullan said, "We also discussed with officials the need for informative and appropriate careers advice which equips young people to make the best decisions for them as individuals.
"We were pleased to hear that an approach is being adopted to utilise existing evidence and data and to take into account the views of stakeholders.
"It is important that the needs of learners are a priority and we look forward to continuing to engage with both departments going forward in this process."
