Mullan raises Universal Credit concerns
Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Karen Mullan has met with senior Jobs and Benefits officials to raise concerns over the current roll out of Universal Credit.
Commenting afterwards, Karen Mullan said: “Along with representatives from the advice sector I met with senior staff to discuss our concerns regarding the roll out of Universal Credit.
“The unacceptable delay in the first payment, the housing cost element and the online application process were among some of the issues raised.
“I also had the opportunity to meet with frontline staff to hear more from the issues that have presented with claimants and what they have done to help people through the process.
“The introduction of this new benefit presents many challenges. The Tory driven policy and the online system which underpins it is riddled with faults, complications and delays.
“I will continue to raise these issues with the local office and the Department for Communities in the time ahead.”
