Mullan welcomes investment in £6 million youth sector projects

4 June, 2018 - by Karen Mullan

Sinn Féin Education Spokesperson Karen Mullan has welcomed the £6 million investment announced for youth sector capital projects.

The Foyle MLA said:

“This very welcome news means that a number of voluntary and community youth groups can plan for the future with a high degree of confidence and certainty.

“I have worked in the community and voluntary sector for a number of years so I am very much aware of the positive contribution this sector makes to wider society. I am also acutely aware of the demand for funding and support.

“The community and youth projects which stand to benefit from this investment play a crucial role in the development of young people and communities across the North.

“They provide a real and positive alternative in communities to the issues of anti-social behaviour and isolation. In addition, these youth projects are an excellent platform for young people to network and to get actively involved in their local areas.

“Although the latest announcement is hugely welcome, Sinn Féin will continue to push for further investment in youth services and for the wider community and voluntary sector.

“Design planning for the projects is set to begin immediately with the construction phase to begin in the 2018/2019 financial year.” ENDS/CRÍOCH
